Prepare for your adventure well in advance and buy items that you will need to secure your baggage with. Some of these items are bag locks and straps, zipper closures, and bike chains.
Before you wait for your ride at the station, place locks on all your luggage and place identification tags. Tie up your baggage together using the straps, and close up your bag’s pockets and compartments with zipper locks. When you board the train, directly proceed to the luggage cart or rack, and use the bike chain to secure them on to the rack. Make sure that you remember the codes of your locks and to not write them down on your tags. If you arrive earlier at the station, you will have the advantage of finding a good location for your baggage, since the racks fill up pretty fast.
While en route, make sure that you keep your purse and valuables within view at all times. If you have a companion, take turns in watching each other’s stuff if you need to go to the restroom or dining car. However, if you are alone, make sure to bring your carry-on bags and your purse with you.
As you get off the train, bring down your luggage all together to avoid having to get on and off the train several times. You can ask an attendant to help you if you cannot manage the load. Finally, when you go around the station, make sure to always keep your baggage close.
